ABOUT LED LIGHTING SOLUTIONS

If I have 400 watt metal halide high bays, do I need the same amount of LED lights?

In most cases with LED’s, the amount and wattage of the lights can be reduced. As an example, the 150 watt Sonaray Delta and Icebreaker high bay fixtures produce more light than the competitor’s 400 watt metal halides. The LED high bay because of its efficient design and increased light levels usually makes a one for one replacement a moot point.

Choosing which LED light sounds too complicated.

We can help! At Design Electric Inc., we can produce a customized photometric layout for your facility. We simply take existing light level readings and get your (the customers) input on the desired light levels and tailor the light plan accordingly. We can also provide the customer with an ROI (return on investment) to show the savings in both electricity and maintenance costs. Our ROI will also show the reduction of carbon emissions which is critical with many companies. Both of these services are provided for FREE.

I am worried about the cost.

Don’t be. LED lights are actually quite affordable. If you compare the maintenance associated with conventional lights such as metal halide (ballast, bulbs, mechanical lifts and maintenance crews) LED lights have them beat hands down. In addition to the money you will save in maintenance and electrical costs, Dominion and Appalachian Power are offering substantial rebates when you convert over. Waiting to convert to LED is costing you money!

What makes LED lights so much better?

LED lights do not use a ballast or bulb like conventional lights. They require no warm-up time, so they are truly instant on and instant off (recall the Super Bowl a few years back where there was a 30 minute wait time for the metal halides to restrike). Moreover, LED’s deliver superior light output, offer great electrical savings (due to lower wattages needed) and require virtually zero maintenance.

I hear about LED’s being maintenance free, but what does that mean?

LED is a solid state light. That means LED’s have no bulbs to burn out and don’t require a noisy/humming ballast. Both of these components are usually quite costly to the end user and are totally eliminated with LED lights. Sonaray have a minimal lifespan of 50,000 hrs. That means if you usually burn your lights 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year, that’s over 17 years of life! That’s 17 years of never needing a bulb or ballast! Also eliminated is the quick deterioration of light levels associated with metal halides. Contrastingly, LED lights have an even and long lasting light level. Moreover, the need for hiring maintenance crews, need for lift rental and industrial machinery downtime is eliminated.
